Crochet: Beginner

Last night my husband went ahead and gave me my birthday present. It was a crochet how-to book, hooks, yarn and other accessories. It was just what I have been wanting. If you remember this post, I talked about wanting to learn crochet and now, I've finally taken on this project! This morning I started with lesson 1 and I must say I tried and failed for an hour then quit. I'm going to try it again later on today. Does anyone have any tips, advice, etc...to make things easier. Maybe even some recommended video tutorials?
