Fix Sewing Machine- Check!

My sewing machine has been on my to do list for a long time now, it feels like. It had been acting up and wasn't working properly. Now that I haven't been working I've had time to look at it and I felt really motivated to figure out what was wrong. I didn't want to have to pay a high price and I really didn't want to part with my machine that I got for my 16th birthday. I took pieces out and put them back again, turned knobs, re-threaded, etc...and would you believe my machine is working completely fine! I'm so excited, now I can start gathering up those sewing projects I've been wanting to do for months. First on my list is a quilt. I picked up some fabric tonight and I plan on starting it this week.

DIY: Turn a Placemat Into a Pillow

Remember the doily placemat that I bought from Kmart a few months back? I know, it's been that long. I had you all guess what you thought I was going to turn it into on this post. I bought the placemat because I absolutely loved it, but it didn't match my dining room so I decided to turn it into a pillow. It's really easy and only took me about 20-25 minutes to complete.
Here's what you'll need:
Placemat
Seam Ripper
Polyester Fiberfill
Needle and thread

Step 1: First, you're going to take your seam ripper and open enough space on one of the sides to fit your hand into. I chose the vertical side without the tag. I ended up only opening 10-12 inches.
Step 2: Stuff the inside of the placemat with polyester fiberfill. Make sure you get enough stuffing or your pillow will be lumpy and thin. Sometimes the bags of fiberfill come with stuffing sticks to help you arrange the stuffing.
Step 3: Once you've filled the placemat completely full of fiberfill, place a pin every few inches to hold the top together as you get ready to hand stitch it back together.
Step 4: Hand stitch the top of the placemat back together.
And now you have a pillow...

Persimmon Hollow

If you live in the Tulsa area or aren't too far away, you must spend a Saturday at Persimmon Hollow, an antique village with 45 dealers. Paul and I spent about an hour going through the little shops today and they have the best peach tea!

What have you done over the weekend so far? Any thrifting, antiquing or flea marketing?
