DIY: Canister

I find joy making things out of trash. I know it sounds funny, but sometimes I keep jars, bottles, coffee sleeves from Starbucks, etc. just to use for future projects. This one in particular only took me 5 minutes and costs under $3. All you need is scrapbook or contact paper, scissors, glue, and a container. I used a plastic one that had juice packets in it from Walmart. The Crystal Light ones are just the same.
All you need to do is wrap the scrapbook paper around the canister and glue it down. Once adhered you can go ahead and cut the excess and ta da, you have a new coin bank or pencil holder. There are lots of other things you can do with these, just be creative!

Project Restyle: Number Pots

I had planned on joining project restyle when it first started, but I'm just now getting around to doing something. Last week I headed to dollar tree and picked up 2 tin pots that were the most hideous things I've ever seen. I've also been wanting to create the number stencil idea on something and just couldn't decide if I wanted to do it to a dresser like Anthropologie or planter pots like Pottery Barn. When I saw these in the store I decided I couldn't pass it up. I bought 2 of them and headed to Home Depot for some stencils and spray paint. This project is super easy and only took me 30 minutes (that includes drying time).

chocolate hershey kiss cake balls

My mother in-law sent our valentine gifts over the weekend and we received them today. I opened my box and I thought I got chocolate truffles, but to my surprise when I bit into one, it was a cake ball with a hershey's kiss inside. I immediately text my mother in-law and asked for the recipe so I could save it for future reference and share it here with you...

Ingredients:
1 box of chocolate cake mix + ingredients called for (milk, water, eggs, oil)
1 container chocolate frosting
1 bar chocolate
1 bag Hershey's Kiss

Directions:
1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions. When the cake is done, crumble while warm into a large bowl, and stir in the frosting until well blended.
2. Melt the chocolate bar in a glass bowl in the microwave.
3. Use a small scoop to form balls of the chocolate cake mixture. Insert a Hershey's Kiss in the center of the cake ball. Dip the balls in chocolate and place on waxed paper to harden.
4. Drizzle icing on top.

Valentine's Day Recap

I had a wonderful Valentine's Day yesterday, my husband personally delivered a bouquet of flowers to my work. We went to PF Changs for dinner and he spoiled me with a few gifts. One of the gifts being some colored pencils from Anthropologie that I have been eyeing for months now. I can't decide if I want to actually use them or keep them for a display piece.
What did you do/get for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day Cupcakes

Since we've been snowed in I've gotten a lot of things accomplished and I even felt like baking. That makes it sound like I hate baking, I don't, but I don't have much free time since we have a lot on our plate so therefore I don't usually feel like baking or cooking. I decided to go ahead and make Paul and I some Valentine's Day cupcakes since we had to cancel our youth fellowship for tomorrow night. I just picked everything up at a local grocery store so nothing made from scratch here. It's kinda funny, I almost do these things just to dress them up for a photo session.

Trying Again

I was trying to learn how to crochet last year and I quickly gave up. This year I am determined to learn, so I started by bringing my yarn and supplies with me on our weekend trip to Arkansas. My mother in-law showed me how to make a chain (I forgot how). Are there any videos or tutorials you recommend that I try? I would love to make this valentines garland.
