Crafternoon

I'm here to share some peeks of my Crafternoon party. I invited 7 girls to my party, one wasn't able to attend. It was so nice to have a full day of fun, girl time. For some of us, it was nice to have a no child day also. We started out by meeting at my house and packing into my mother in-law's car to head to lunch and the flea market. We went to a local deli shop and enjoyed lunch and fellowship for about an hour then we went across the street to the fair grounds (where the indoor flea market is) and spent a good 2.5-3 hours shopping and talking about things we'd like to find.
After finishing our flea market adventure we headed back to my house to do crafts and eat desserts. If I learned anything at all, it's that 2 hours is not enough time to craft more than 2 things. Next time I will take account the time it takes to decide what you're going to do before you do it. I had 3 crafts for them to do: a yarn wrapped wreath, a flour sack tea towel, and a cake pedestal. Every one completed 2 projects because there wasn't enough time to do all three so I let them take home what they didn't get to do. The day couldn't have gone any better though and I think I'll be doing this again very soon!

weekend finds

As mentioned before, I took my crafty girls to the flea market on Saturday as part of my crafternoon party. It was a blast! I have never had such a creative streak when looking at stuff before. When Paul and I go we don't talk about what things could be used for. It was so nice to have a group of girls with me that have the same interests and likes. I found 2 pillowcases, a wooden pants hanger, a milk jar, and 4 doilies.

I will be back Thursday with a few crafternoon photos. I was getting some photos off of our camera and noticed Paul actually took a few when he and the guys got back to the house.

PS. Paul had a photo shoot on Saturday so I wasn't able to take "nice" photos of my party. I'm sorry you only get iPhone photos in a horribly lighted house. I'll be back tomorrow to share what we did and my flea market finds.

Crafternoon Sneak Peek

I've mentioned my craft party a couple of times here on the blog lately. This weekend I'm having a small party called "Crafternoon"for my close friends. We're meeting at noon for lunch and then we'll have a grand ole' time at the local indoor flea market. After the flea market, we'll be spending a few hours at my house doing crafts. I already have all of the supplies purchased, today I'm working on decorations. I'm so excited for this girls day! I've needed this! I'll be back with details of everything on Monday...or Tuesday. Anyone else ever have a craft party before? This is my first. Any advice or things that went over well?

Organizing On Pinterest

And I don't mean organizing my pinterest boards! I'm talking about doing some of my saved organizing ideas on pinterest. I'm not going to let my boards just sit any longer. I'm on a rampage to get MOST of these done by the end of the year. Some I've already done in the past and one I just did yesterday. I tackled the tiered metal organizer as seen originally here on MaryJanes and Galoshes. I loved the blue she chose for her candlesticks so I decided to copy her :) also it matches my color scheme for the craft party I'm hosting this Saturday. I think this will make a great addition to the supply table. What do you think?
Anyone else actually tackling their pinterest projects?

Teething & Cereal

Yesterday was rough. Baby is teething and mama is tired. I posted about him teething on my facebook and everyone wrote what they think I should do. I wasn't really asking for advice, but people like to give plenty in that department. I appreciate it, but it's not helpful when half of them are telling you Orijel is bad. I plan on calling his pediatrician before giving him teething medicane. Until then, I've been doing tylenol when he's in pain. He hasn't had any bouts today yet, but yesterday he was fussy all day long and once he'd start crying it would last for what seemed forever.

On a brighter note, we gave him cereal for the first time last night. I'm thinking we should have given it to him in a bottle first because he ate it all and then cried. He wanted his bottle and was still hungry. So I gave him a couple of ounces of just formula and he was content. My baby is growing up on me!

Easter Weekend

We went to my in-law's house on Friday afternoon since Paul was off for Good Friday.  We got there and enjoyed eating robin eggs (Whopper's). I went through my mother in-law's unwanted fabric and rounded up a stash for my upcoming craft party.

On Saturday we went to a museum called Crystal Bridges. It's a new one that just opened up that features art from different centuries by American artists. After visiting the museum, we went to Red Robin for burgers and a shake. I had mint brownie and Paul had vanilla.

Sunday came and we got up for our morning church service. Our youth class hid all the eggs for the other classes. It was tiring and a long morning, but fun! After church my little family decided to go to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch.

When we got home I put together Noah's first Easter basket. I know he doesn't understand, but I just wanted to do a little something for him so I picked up a book about the REAL Easter, a mini musical piano, and a CD of children's Bible songs. Noah already loves music so much!

While Noah was napping Paul and I took some expired eggs from the refrigerator and decided to dye them. Kinda silly since we just threw them out afterwards, but they were pretty to look at for a little while.

After our evening church service we went to dinner with some friends at this new Mexican restaurant in town. It was a really neat atmosphere and I approve because they had vintage decor in their bathroom!

How was your Easter weekend? What did you do?

Before and After: Doily Plant Box

I found this wooden plant box at Ikea last September when we went to Houston for vacation. I had planned on staining it a different shade, but never got around to it. I actually just started using it after getting this plant from a dear friend while I was in the hospital with Noah. I was thinking the other day about how it's probably time to transport the plant from it's small plastic pot (it's grown fast) to this box. I was looking for some craft supplies at Michaels the other day and found some doilies in the dollar section. I immediately thought of how I could add a touch of sweetness to my plant box. Even if you don't have the same planter box, you could easily use this idea for something else. Here's what you need:
All I did was 3 simple steps: first, I applied spray adhesive to the area of the box that I wanted the doily to cover. Second, I applied the doily to the sticky surface and folded the bottom and side of the doily. Third, I cut off the excess of the doily and viola!
An easy transformation that makes me happy every time I see it when I walk through the back door!
